Abstract:
The performance of photovoltaic cells depends on efficient electron transitions from the valence band to the conduction band. This study investigates how modifications in material properties influence these transitions, directly affecting light absorption. The results show that adjustments in the material structure lead to shifts in the absorption spectrum, improving energy harvesting from both visible and ultraviolet regions. These findings highlight the potential for optimizing photovoltaic materials to enhance their suitability for optoelectronic applications.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Muhammad Majid Gulzar is an associate professor in the Department of Control & Instrumentation Engineering (CIE), King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. degree with a specialization in Electrical Engineering (Control Science and Engineering) from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2016. He is a member of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (IRC-SES), KFUPM, Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), and IEEEP (P). His areas of interest are Operation and Control of Renewable Energy Systems, Optimization Techniques and Applications, Control Systems, AGC/LFC in Smart Grids, AI/ML Techniques, etc. He has advised several projects in these areas and has published 100+ research papers with a commutative impact factor of 250+ in reputed international journals and conferences. Elsevier and Standard University, USA has placed him among the “Top 2% of scientists worldwide” for 2024 in the field of Energy.
Mr. Ghiyas Anwar is currently serving as a Lecturer in the Physics Department at Government College University Faisalabad, Faisalabad, Pakistan. He is pursuing his Ph.D. in the Department of Physics and Applied Mathematics at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), supported by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan through the Faculty Development Program (FDP) scholarship. This initiative, aligned with the HEC's vision of fostering international collaborations and enhancing educational opportunities, has enabled him to work at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), where he is engaging in valuable collaborations with globally recognized universities. Presently, he is advancing his research at the Joint Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA) in KFUPM, with access to their computational lab facilities for machine learning applications. Additionally, Mr. Ghiyas Anwar is researching renewable energy sources through density functional theory and plans to integrate machine learning-based predictions for future research applications.
