Seminar on "An Introduction to Systems Biology" by Dr. Aamer Bhatti, a Professor of CIE Dept.
  • 22-119

  • Oct. 2, 2025 - Oct. 2, 2025

  • 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Speaker:

Dr. Aamer Bhatti

Professor
Control and Instrumentation Engineering Department

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals

Dhahran, Saudi Arabia

Abstract:

Systems Biology is an emerging interdisciplinary field that integrates biology, mathematics, computer science, and engineering to study complex biological systems as whole networks rather than isolated parts. This seminar will provide an overview of the field, highlight its research applications, and discuss future opportunities for graduate students.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Aamer Bhatti is currently working as a Professor in the Control and Instrumentation Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM, Saudi Arabia.  Prof. Aamer Iqbal Bhatti is the founding Head of the Research Group CASPR (Controls and Signal Processing Research). He has published over ninety journal publications with an impact factor of over 300 and h-index of 29. He contributed to the analysis and intervention design for the p53 pathway, Wnt pathway, and its cross-talk with the cell cycle. He showed that the oscillations in p53 are due to Hopf bifurcation. He also introduced the novel use of binary state space models in pathway analysis and intervention design. Currently, he is working on applying nonlinear observer theory to brain signals to better understand epileptic seizures.
